Early Life & Education

Chief Emmanuel Onwuegbunam Maduji, crowned Ekuboruenyim I of Mgbidi, was born on December 30, 1932. He married Chief Mrs. Cordelia Uzoamka Maduji and together they raised nine children.

As a dedicated educator, Chief Maduji served as Headmaster at several schools:

  • Central School, Mgbidi (1970–1972)
  • Ogboli Ndulo Primary School, Awgu (1976–1977)
  • Onoli Community School, Awgu (1978–1980)
  • Central School, Ogbaku (1980–1982)
  • Community School, Mgbowo (1982–1983)
  • Community School, Mgbidi (1983–1984)



Community Leadership

  • Secretary, OGBA Boys’ Club (late 1950s–early 1960s)
  • First Recognized Chief of Mgbidi (1958–1975)
  • Member, Awgu Divisional Council as Second‑Class Chief
  • Chairman, Mgbidi Town Union (till 2000)
  • President General, Ogba Development Union (1988–1991)
  • Founding Father of Technical College Mgbidi & first PTA Chair
  • Customary Court Judge, Mbanano Customary Court (1993–2000)



Faith & Legacy

A devout Catholic, Chief Maduji:

  • Chaired St. Benedict’s Parish House Works Committee
  • Led the ordination committee of St. Michael’s Parish, Awgu (1988)


Impact on Society

  • Ended the practice of killing twins in Mgbidi
  • Upheld strict discipline, inspiring community respect and progress
